Registered address change

A company has changed its registered office address with ACRA. Sometimes that means a real move with fit-out and set-up needs. Often it means very little.

In short: Most registered address changes are administrative, often just a new corporate secretary, so confirm a real move on the company's website or LinkedIn before acting. Compare monthly ACRA files for a watch list and pitch post-move services such as cleaning or security.

What this signal means

A company has told ACRA that its registered office address has changed. ACRA requires registered entities to report changes, including the registered office address, within 14 days of the change, so the register tends to catch up with moves fairly quickly.

What the change means in practice varies. It might be a move to a larger office, a first real premises after working from a shared space, or a move out of Singapore’s central area. It might equally be a switch from one corporate secretary’s address to another, which tells you nothing about the business.

Why it predicts a purchase

When a move is real, it creates purchases: fit-out, furniture, IT and network set-up, security, signage, cleaning, removal services and sometimes new local suppliers near the new site. A move to a bigger space can also hint at growth and hiring.

The difficulty is telling real moves from paperwork. Because so many companies use a service provider’s address, we rate this low intent on its own. It becomes useful when it agrees with something else, such as a company announcement, new job postings or a change in the type of address, for example from a commercial office building to an industrial unit.

Where to find it in Singapore

  • ACRA Information on Corporate Entities on data.gov.sg. Free under the Open Data Licence and updated monthly, in 27 CSV files split by the first letter of the entity name. Each row includes address fields: address type, block, street name, level, unit, building name and postal code. The files show the current address, not a history, so to find changes you compare one month’s copy with the previous one. Certain columns are excluded for gazetted companies.
  • Bizfile. ACRA says entity status, registered address and business activity can be searched free on Bizfile without logging in. Use it to confirm the current address of a company you are about to contact.
  • ACRA’s rules on updating entity information. Free. Sets out the 14-day deadline (30 days for foreign companies).

How to monitor it

  1. Keep a watch list of target UENs rather than tracking every company in Singapore.
  2. Save each monthly file after the update and compare address fields for your watch list against the previous month.
  3. Flag meaningful changes: a new postal district, a new building type or a move away from a known corporate secretary’s address.
  4. Confirm the move on the company website, Google Business Profile or LinkedIn before writing. Look for photos, a new office announcement or job posts at the new location.
  5. Drop changes you cannot confirm. They are usually administrative.

How fast to act

Within two to four weeks of confirming a real move. Because the dataset is monthly and companies have 14 days to report, the move may already be a month or more old when you see it. Fit-out and set-up purchases are often made before the move, so this signal suits services needed after moving in, such as cleaning, maintenance, local deliveries or security, better than fit-out itself.

Example first message

Illustrative example:

Subject: Your new Kallang office

Hi Hui Min, I saw Oakridge Dental Supplies has moved to a new office in Kallang. Congratulations on the bigger space. Once the boxes are unpacked, office cleaning is often one of the last things sorted. We clean small offices in the area after hours on a weekly schedule. Would a quote based on your floor area be useful?

Regards, Kumar

Pitfalls and rules

  • Most changes are administrative. Never assume a move from the registry alone.
  • Registered address is not always where people work. The operating site may be elsewhere.
  • Do not write “we noticed your ACRA filing”. Refer to the move itself, ideally as the company announced it.
  • Check the outreach rules in B2B outreach in Singapore: what PDPA and the Do Not Call rules allow.

FYAdvisers can combine address changes with other signals, such as hiring, through our signal-based lead generation service.

Frequently asked questions

How soon must a company tell ACRA about a new registered address?

ACRA says registered entities must notify it of changes, including the registered office address, within 14 days from the date of change. Foreign companies have 30 days.

Does a new registered address mean the company has moved office?

Not always. Many companies use a corporate secretary's or accountant's address as their registered office, so a change can simply mean a change of service provider. Confirm a real move before acting.

Can I check a company's registered address for free?

Yes. ACRA says basic information, including registered address, can be searched free on Bizfile without logging in. The monthly ACRA dataset on data.gov.sg also includes address fields.
