New office or expansion

A company is opening a new site, warehouse, plant, outlet or regional headquarters, which needs fit-out, equipment, services, systems and staff.

In short: Contact the company within two to four weeks of the announcement and before the new site opens, while fit-out and supplier choices are still being made. Track expansions through Google Alerts, LinkedIn, EDB stories and SGX announcements, and find the project owner rather than the person quoted.

What this signal means

A company is adding physical capacity: a new office, a second warehouse, a production line, a retail outlet or a regional headquarters in Singapore. The announcement may come before the site opens, at the opening, or both.

Expansion is one of the easiest signals to explain in a message, because the need is visible. A new site is empty until someone fills it.

Why it predicts a purchase

Every new site generates a list of purchases: fit-out, furniture, IT and networking, security, cleaning, maintenance, signage, insurance, transport and local hiring. A regional headquarters may also need legal, tax, payroll and recruitment support. Many of these are decided by a small project team over a short period, and they often look beyond existing suppliers because the old ones do not cover the new location.

The signal is strongest when the company announces a site before it opens, because that is when choices are made.

Where to find it in Singapore

  • Company announcements. Press releases, LinkedIn posts and newsroom pages are the most common source. Free.
  • EDB News and insights. Free. Publishes stories on companies setting up or growing in Singapore, with filters and a “Headquarters” tag for regional headquarters and office openings. Selected companies only, published as stories rather than as a complete register.
  • Enterprise Singapore Media Centre. Free. Media releases, speeches and news. Useful mainly for programmes and overseas expansion by Singapore companies.
  • SGX Company Announcements. Free. Listed companies announce material developments, often as General Announcements. Search by company and date.
  • ACRA address changes. A change of registered address can follow a move to bigger premises. See the registered address change signal for how to find these and how to read them.

How to monitor it

  1. Set Google Alerts for phrases like “opens new” or “new facility” with “Singapore” and your sector terms.
  2. Follow target accounts on LinkedIn, where companies often post about new premises before and after opening.
  3. Check EDB News and insights monthly, filtered to the themes that match your customers.
  4. Check SGX weekly for listed customers and prospects.
  5. Log the company, site, location, opening date and source, and note whether the site is already open.

How fast to act

Within two to four weeks of the announcement, and before the site opens if you can. If the announcement is for a site opening many months away, write early to the project lead and follow up as the date approaches. If the site is already open, focus on ongoing services such as maintenance or cleaning rather than setup.

Example first message

Illustrative example:

Subject: Your second warehouse in Tuas

Hi Raymond, I saw Eastport Cold Chain announced a second warehouse in Tuas, opening early next year. New cold rooms usually need temperature monitoring installed and tested before goods arrive. We install and maintain monitoring for cold stores in Singapore. Would a short list of what to have in place before commissioning be useful?

Regards, Nadia

Pitfalls and rules

  • Plans change. Announced sites can be delayed or cancelled. Refer to what was announced, not to a confirmed opening.
  • Check the location is in your area. Regional headquarters stories sometimes describe teams covering many countries.
  • Find the project owner. Facilities, operations or the country manager usually own setup decisions, not the person quoted in the press release.
  • Address changes are not always growth. Read the registered address change signal before acting on one.
  • Check the outreach rules in B2B outreach in Singapore: what PDPA and the Do Not Call rules allow.

FYAdvisers can watch for new sites in your market and draft expansion-specific outreach for your approval through our signal-based lead generation service.

Frequently asked questions

Is a registered address change the same as an expansion?

Not always. A company may change its registered address to a corporate secretary's office or a cheaper unit. Treat it as a prompt to check what happened, and see the registered address change signal for details.

When is the best time to contact a company that is expanding?

Before the new site opens, while fit-out and supplier choices are being made. Once the site is running, most of the setup purchases are done.

Does EDB list every company setting up in Singapore?

No. It publishes selected stories and announcements. Most expansions only appear in company news, LinkedIn posts or trade press.
