An accounting firm in Singapore keeps your books, prepares your year-end financial statements and files the returns your company owes to IRAS and ACRA. For most private companies that means bookkeeping through the year, an Estimated Chargeable Income (ECI) filing where required, a corporate income tax return such as Form C-S, quarterly GST returns if you are GST-registered, and financial statements to support the annual return your company files with ACRA. Most SMEs buy this as a package priced by transaction volume, with tax and annual filings either bundled in or added per filing.

## Services accounting firms offer

### Bookkeeping

- Recording and categorising sales, purchases and expenses
- Bank reconciliation
- Tracking what customers owe you and what you owe suppliers
- Monthly or quarterly management reports
- Setup of cloud accounting software and a chart of accounts

Bookkeeping can be done monthly, quarterly or once a year. Monthly is easier to keep accurate and is close to essential if you file GST.

### Year-end accounts and tax

- Unaudited financial statements, or support for your auditor if you need an audit
- Financial statements in XBRL format where ACRA requires them
- Corporate tax computation, ECI and Form C-S, Form C-S (Lite) or Form C filing

### GST

- Advice on whether and when you must register
- GST registration
- Quarterly GST F5 returns

### Related work

- Payroll, often offered alongside bookkeeping (see [payroll outsourcing](/find/payroll-outsourcing/))
- Annual return filing and company secretary support, which some firms provide and others leave to a [corporate secretarial provider](/find/corporate-secretarial/)
- Audit, which must be done by a public accountant registered with ACRA

## What it costs in Singapore

Pricing depends on how many transactions you have, how often the books are updated, and which filings are included. From providers' pages we checked in October 2026:

- One provider prices monthly bookkeeping by bank statement transactions: S$110 a month for fewer than 25, S$170 for fewer than 50, S$280 for fewer than 100, and from S$370 above that. It charges separately for financial statement compilation (S$350 a year), corporate tax computation and filing (S$500 per Year of Assessment), ACRA annual return filing (S$200 including the ACRA fee) and XBRL statements (S$250), and quotes GST work separately.
- Another provider lists bookkeeping from S$500 a year before GST, and GST return submission from S$150 before GST.

These are published starting prices from providers' own websites, not quotes. The main cost drivers are:

- **Transaction volume.** Most firms price in bands by monthly transactions.
- **Frequency.** Monthly bookkeeping costs more than a once-a-year catch-up, but avoids year-end surprises.
- **GST registration.** Quarterly GST returns add recurring work.
- **Audit.** If your company does not qualify for audit exemption, expect a separate audit fee.
- **Backlog.** Catching up on months or years of missed bookkeeping is usually quoted separately.
- **Complexity.** Multiple currencies, inventory, several bank accounts or group companies all add time.

## Singapore rules buyers should know

These obligations sit with the company and its directors, even when a firm does the work.

### ACRA annual return

Every company must file an annual return with ACRA, even if dormant. For non-listed companies, ACRA's [annual return deadline](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/legal-requirements-common-offences/filing-annual-returns-companies/deadline-requirements/) is within seven months after the financial year end, or eight months for non-listed companies with share capital and an overseas branch register. Late filing can lead to penalties.

### Audit exemption

Under ACRA's [small company concept](https://www.acra.gov.sg/manage/companies/legal-requirements-common-offences/preparing-financial-statements/audit-exemptions/), a private company is exempt from audit if it meets at least two of three criteria: total annual revenue of S$10 million or less, total assets of S$10 million or less, and 50 or fewer full-time employees. Subsidiaries qualify only if the group meets the test, and shareholders holding at least 5% of shares can still require an audit. ACRA has announced a review of these thresholds, so check the current position.

### Corporate income tax: ECI and Form C-S

IRAS expects [ECI within three months](https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/corporate-income-tax/basics-of-corporate-income-tax/basic-guide-to-corporate-income-tax-for-companies) of the financial year end, unless the company qualifies for a waiver (revenue of S$5 million or less and nil ECI). The annual corporate tax return is due by 30 November. [Form C-S](https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/corporate-income-tax/form-c-s-form-c-s-(lite)-form-c-filing/overview-of-form-c-s-form-c-s-(lite)-form-c) is for Singapore-incorporated companies with revenue of S$5 million or less that meet IRAS's other conditions; Form C-S (Lite) is for revenue of S$200,000 or less, and other companies file Form C. A return is due even if the company made a loss or had no business, unless IRAS has granted a waiver.

### GST registration and returns

You must [register for GST](https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/goods-services-tax-(gst)/gst-registration-deregistration/do-i-need-to-register-for-gst) if your taxable turnover was more than S$1 million in a calendar year (retrospective basis), or if you can reasonably expect it to exceed S$1 million in the next 12 months (prospective basis). Once registered, GST returns are generally [due one month after](https://www.iras.gov.sg/taxes/goods-services-tax-(gst)/filing-gst/due-dates-and-requests-for-extension) the end of each accounting period, usually quarterly, and a nil return is still required when there are no transactions. IRAS imposes a S$200 late filing penalty, plus further penalties for each month a return is outstanding.

## How to choose an accounting firm

Ask each firm to explain how a typical month and a typical year end work for a company like yours.

Questions to ask:

1. What exactly is in the package: bookkeeping, financial statements, ECI, Form C-S, GST returns, annual return, XBRL?
2. How do you count transactions, and what happens if we go over our band?
3. Which accounting software do you use, and will we have our own login?
4. Who will handle our account, and are they qualified? Is any audit done by a public accountant registered with ACRA?
5. What do you need from us each month, and by what date?
6. Will you tell us when we are approaching the GST threshold or losing audit exemption?
7. How do you charge for backlog, corrections or IRAS queries?
8. If we leave, do we keep our accounting file and records?

## Red flags

- A low monthly price with tax filing, financial statements and annual return all listed as extras you only discover later
- No clear definition of a "transaction"
- Books kept only in the firm's own system, with no access for you
- Claims that a company "does not need to file" without reference to an IRAS waiver or ACRA exemption
- No reminders or calendar for ECI, Form C-S, GST and annual return deadlines
- Offering an audit without naming the public accountant who signs it
- Unwillingness to put scope and fees in an engagement letter

## Frequently asked questions

### How does matching work?

You describe your company, roughly how many transactions you have each month, your financial year end and what you need, such as bookkeeping, Form C-S, GST returns or an annual return. A concierge then contacts you to confirm the details and, with your consent, introduces you to the number you choose (one to five) of accounting providers that handle that work. They contact you directly, and you decide whether to engage any of them.

### Is it free?

Yes. It is free for businesses requesting a match. Providers pay FYAdvisers to receive introductions. FYAdvisers is not an accounting firm and does not do the work itself.

### What is the difference between bookkeeping and accounting services?

Bookkeeping is recording and reconciling transactions during the year. Accounting services usually add year-end financial statements, corporate tax computation and filing, and support for ACRA annual return filing. Many providers price these separately.

### Does my company need an audit?

Not always. ACRA's small company concept exempts many private companies from audit if they meet at least two of three criteria: revenue of S$10 million or less, total assets of S$10 million or less, and 50 or fewer full-time employees. Check ACRA's rules for your company, including group rules.

### How much do bookkeeping services cost in Singapore?

It depends mainly on transaction volume and what is included. One provider we checked in October 2026 lists monthly bookkeeping from S$110 a month for fewer than 25 transactions, with tax filing and financial statements charged separately. Ask for an itemised quote.
