# Shopify vs WooCommerce for Singapore B2B and B2C sellers (2026)

> Shopify is a hosted platform: you pay a monthly plan and Shopify runs the software. WooCommerce is a free WordPress plugin: you pay for hosting, extensions and someone to maintain it. For Singapore sellers, the right choice depends on how much control you need, whether you sell to businesses as well as consumers, and who will look after the site. Prices were checked on each vendor's own site in October 2026.

## The verdict

**Choose Shopify** if you want to launch quickly, keep maintenance low, pay in Singapore dollars and use built-in payments, point of sale and B2B catalogs. It suits B2C brands, retailers with a shop front, and wholesalers whose B2B needs fit Shopify's catalog model.

**Choose WooCommerce** if you already run WordPress, want full ownership of your code and data, need unusual product or pricing logic, or prefer to avoid a platform subscription. It suits businesses with a developer or agency on hand and B2B sellers with complex price lists.

The deciding question is usually not features but ownership: who will update, secure and fix the store each month.

## Shopify vs WooCommerce at a glance

Prices were checked on each vendor's own website in October 2026 and exclude GST.

| | Shopify (Singapore) | WooCommerce |

| Hosting | Included | You choose; WooCommerce estimates US$25 to US$350 a month for most stores |

| B2B | Up to 3 B2B catalogs on Basic, Grow and Advanced; unlimited on Plus | Through extensions, for example B2B for WooCommerce (Addify) at US$149 for a one-year plan |
| Point of sale | Included; POS Pro add-on S$129 per month per location | Through extensions or third-party POS |

| Strongest fit | Low-maintenance hosted store | Maximum control on WordPress |

## Cost in practice

Shopify's costs are predictable: a plan fee plus payment processing. On Basic billed yearly, the plan is S$29 a month, and online card payments through Shopify Payments start at 3.2% + S$0.50. If you use a different payment gateway, Shopify adds its own transaction fee of 2% on Basic, falling to 0.6% on Advanced. Apps add monthly costs, so list the apps you will need before comparing.

WooCommerce's costs depend on choices. The plugin is free, but you need hosting, a theme, extensions for features such as subscriptions or B2B pricing, and someone to apply updates. WooPayments fees for Singapore accounts are listed at 3.40% + $0.50 for domestic cards, with an extra 1.50% for international cards and 2.00% for currency conversion. You can also use other gateways without a WooCommerce surcharge.

For a small B2C store without in-house technical staff, Shopify is often cheaper once maintenance time is counted. For a larger store with a developer already on retainer, WooCommerce can cost less over time.

## B2B and wholesale

### Shopify

Shopify's B2B tools let you set up customers as companies, assign catalogs with specific products and prices, and apply quantity rules and volume pricing. On Basic, Grow and Advanced you can have up to three active B2B catalogs across your B2B markets. Plus offers unlimited catalogs and direct assignment to companies and locations. If you have many customer-specific price lists, three catalogs may be limiting, and Plus starts from US$2,300 a month.

### WooCommerce

WooCommerce handles B2B through extensions. B2B for WooCommerce by Addify, for example, adds quote requests that replace the add-to-cart button, quantity-based price tiers by customer role, custom user roles and tax exemption with number validation. Because the code is open, a developer can also build custom logic, such as contract pricing synced from your ERP. The trade-off is more moving parts to maintain and test after each update.

## Singapore specifics

### Payments and currency

Both platforms offer built-in card processing in Singapore. Shopify's Singapore plans are priced in SGD, except Plus. Confirm which payment gateway you will use and whether it supports PayNow and any other methods your customers ask for.

### GST, invoicing and InvoiceNow

Check how each platform shows GST on orders and invoices for your registration status. For B2B sales, InvoiceNow e-invoicing is normally sent from accounting software rather than the store, so plan how orders flow into your accounting system. An [accounting firm](/find/accounting-firms/) can advise on the GST side.

### Inventory and operations

If you sell across a website, marketplaces and a shop front, stock accuracy matters more than the store platform. Our guide to [inventory management systems in Singapore](/blog/inventory-management-system-singapore/) covers the options, and [Zapier vs Make](/compare/zapier-vs-make/) covers automation tools that connect the pieces.

### Grants

The Productivity Solutions Grant closed to new applications after September 2026 and EDGE replaced it. We do not claim either platform is eligible. See our [website grant page](/grants/psg-grant-website/), the [POS system grant page](/grants/psg-grant-pos-system/) and the [EDGE grant calculator](/tools/edge-grant-calculator/).

## Maintenance and security

Shopify runs the hosting, software updates and checkout security for you. Your responsibility is mainly your theme, apps and staff access.

With WooCommerce, the business is responsible for the whole stack. That means keeping WordPress, WooCommerce, the theme and every plugin updated, taking backups, monitoring uptime and testing checkout after updates. A plugin update that breaks checkout during a sale costs more than a year of hosting, so many WooCommerce stores pay an agency for a maintenance retainer.

## Questions to ask before you commit

- **Who will maintain the store each month?** Name a person or agency and the budget.
- **Which apps or extensions will we need?** List them and add their annual cost to the plan or hosting fee.
- **How many B2B price lists do we have?** Compare that number with Shopify's three-catalog limit below Plus.
- **Which payment methods do customers use?** Check card, PayNow and any wallets with your chosen gateway.
- **How will orders reach accounting and stock systems?** Decide on an integration before launch, not after.
- **Can we export everything?** Confirm you can take products, customers and orders with you if you move platform.

## Which should you choose?

- **New B2C brand without a developer:** Shopify Basic or Grow.
- **Retailer with a physical shop:** Shopify, for its integrated point of sale.
- **Wholesaler with a few price tiers:** Shopify, if three B2B catalogs are enough.
- **Wholesaler with many customer-specific price lists or ERP pricing:** WooCommerce with a B2B extension and a developer, or Shopify Plus if the budget allows.
- **Business already on WordPress with strong content:** WooCommerce, to keep content and store together.
- **Business that wants to own every line of code:** WooCommerce.
